The Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI) was founded in 1976-77 at Nagpur with the purpose of advancing the specialties of Radiotherapy & Oncology in India. Since its inception, the organization has grown manifold and now boasts of 3297 members all over India. It is a premier Radiation Oncology organization that has been working untiringly for the last four decades for the advancement of the discipline of Radiotherapy in India by organizing conferences, academic symposia and teaching programs for its junior members. The AROI attaches a very high importance to the academic & research activities in Radiation Oncology with its related disciplines. To improve the overall standards of post-graduate teaching, clinical practice and adequate growth of this discipline the Indian College of Radiation Oncologists was established as a dedicated and integral part of the Association in 1992. This elite organization has been organising regular teaching workshopsfor trainees (since 1997) and more recently, postgraduates in radiation oncology in different parts of the country.
The association also publishes a well read peer reviewed journal called the Journal of Cancer Research and Therapeutics (JCRT) quarterly. The journal has a large readership among radiation oncologists in India and abroad and has recently been indexed in Pubmed.
Since 2015, the AROI has been proud to host an officially licensed Best of ASTRO Meeting in India, which has been a new and exciting internationally aligned event where members are able to experience at close quarters, selected new research presented at the Annual Conference of American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).
This year, the AROI-West Bengal Chapter is proud to host the 4th Best of ASTRO meeting, to be held at Hotel Taj Bengal, Kolkata between 29.06.2019 (Saturday) and 30.06.2019 (Sunday), comprising around 100 selected abstracts from ASTRO 2018, along with related interactive sessions. The hosting institute is Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Howrah, an unit of Narayana Health, and one of the premier comprehensive cancer centres of Eastern India.
